The art of water puppetry has existed in Vietnam since the 11th century, created by the farmers of the Red River Delta as a way to keep themselves entertained amongst their flooded rice fields. Today you can enjoy this cultural spectacle in a theatre, with the puppeteers behind the scenes controlling their marionettes with long rods under the water. The performances, based on folk stories and local legends, remain the same and are accompanied by a traditional Vietnamese orchestra.
