Macau is located south-west of Hong Kong and on the southeast coast of China and consists of the Macau Peninsula and the islands of Taipa and Coloane, a place to find traditional Chinese culture while enjoying the exotic Portuguese buildings. The name ‘Macau’ honours the Goddess of Seafarers, as it has long been a place of shipping and trade. With baroque-style churches, traditional Chinese building, gardens and temples, there is much more to Macau; its giant casinos and extravagant malls have earned it the nickname, the “Las Vegas of Asia”

The Macau Peninsula is home to Macau’s most iconic attractions such as the UNESCO World Heritage listed European-Style buildings in the Historic Centre Macau, Senado Square with its patterned cobblestone pavement, the A-Ma Temple, Guia Fortress and Lighthouse, the Ruins of St. Paul’s and one of its prominent landmarks is the 338 metre high Macau Tower with sweeping city views.

Neighbouring islands of Taipa and Coloane is connected to Macau by two bridges feature tranquil natural and beach sceneries and is great short break away from the bustling city of Peninsular. Taipa Island provides a mix of Chinese charm, Portuguese architecture and modern casinos, Taipa Village has a number of shop-houses typical of southern China and the 100m-long Rua da Cunha (‘Food Street’) is lined with gourmet restaurants.

Coloane is Macau’s countryside, once a small fishing village frequented by pirates. A stroll through the narrow streets of Coloane will reveal old-world charms, including St. Francis Xavier Chapel. It is here you will find Lord Stow’s Bakery, serving up delicious Portuguese egg tarts.
